L3 Airline Academy and Adacel Team to Enrich Pilot Communications Training

ORLANDO, Florida, September 4, 2014 – Adacel announced today that L3 Airline Academy and Adacel have joined forces to enhance pilot communications training at Aerosim’s campus in Sanford, Florida. Under terms of the agreement Adacel will supply two suites of Intelligent Communications Environment (ICE) aviation language proficiency trainer, which will be integrated into Aerosim’s comprehensive pilot training programs.

Precise communications are crucial to aviation safety and consequently are a core component in both pilot and air traffic controller training. This includes the comprehension and use of specialized aviation phraseology as well as employing correct communications procedures designed to mitigate congestion and confusion on busy radio frequencies. This can be a particular problem for students whose native language is not English and who are required to demonstrate proficiency to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) English standards.

L3 Airline Academy ’s Senior Director of Operations, Leon Moberg, explained that a lack of communication skills can distract the student and seriously impact performance in pilot training functions. He went on to say that students lacking proficiency in the English language tend to have more difficulty and often take longer in training. Adacel’s ICE is designed to help students gain the necessary proficiency, so they can make maximum use of their time in the air and in more advanced flight simulators.

Adacel’s ICE is designed to help users gain the vocabulary and comprehension necessary to achieve aviation English language proficiency. The system leverages Adacel’s advanced speech recognition technology wrapped with lesson content to create a virtual aviation communication environment to develop the use of common aviation terms and exchanges that occur during flight. Learning in this immersive environment creates context for the phraseology that reinforces practical application and helps students develop proficiency in language, microphone techniques, timing and radio discipline. Students become better prepared to focus with confidence on other aspects of their flight training.

“The close proximity of the L3 Airline Academyand Adacel facilities in Florida make it a natural fit for us to work together to enhance the crucial element of communication within flight training,” said Seth Brown, CEO Adacel.

The two companies will continue to use their collective expertise to further enhance scenario content aimed at attaining proficiency.
