L3 Airline Academy Women Pilots to Compete in 2015 Air Race Classic
SANFORD, Fla. (May 4, 2015) – Women from around the country, including two pilots from L3 Airline Academy , will demonstrate their advanced aviation skills during the 2015 Air Race Classic (ARC). Taking off from Fredericksburg, Virginia on June 22, women ranging in age from 14-85 will compete on a course that will take them more than 2,100 nautical miles through ten states in four days concluding in Fairhope, Alabama.
“L3 Airline Academy prides itself on 26 years of experience in training men and women to become professional airline pilots,” says President and General Manager, L3 Airline Academy Hank Coates. “As part of our on-going effort to support and bring specific awareness to women in aviation, we have entered a team of two women pilots to participate in the 2015 Air Race Classic, a race dedicated to preserving and promoting the tradition of pioneering women in aviation.”
Led by L3 Airline AcademyInstructor and Learning Resource Center Coordinator Lauren Thompson, who is making her third appearance in the Air Race Classic and is also the 2010 Collegiate Winner, the L3 Airline Academyteam also includes student Kelsey Brown who will be making her competition debut as co-pilot.
Designed to increase public awareness of general aviation and demonstrate women’s roles in aviation, the Air Race Classic started in 1977 and is considered by many as the epicenter of women’s air racing.
“The Air Race Classic is the pinnacle of women’s air racing. Every year, Air Race Classic pilots hone their flying techniques while acting as general aviation ambassadors at race stops all over the country. It is a premier gathering of women pilots and a life changing event for many of participants, both racers and volunteers.” says ARC President Lara Gaerte.
